We adopted our dog from San Francisco Animal Care and Control last August, and it was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. She has been the most wonderful addition to our family — loving, sweet, and full of personality. The facility itself was clean, modern, and welcoming. It was clear that the animals were well cared for and all staff were friendly and helpful. They also provided helpful resources and support after the adoption, which made the transition smooth and stress-free. We’re so grateful for the experience and can’t imagine our life without her. We highly recommend adopting from ACC.

I love San Francisco animal control. I love the work they do and most of their field officers that I’ve had contact with when reporting situations have been amazing.. But some of the customer service staff when calling to ask questions about straight animals who you found and brought in they give you nothing but attitude very very rude not helpful in any type of way and you can just tell they’re very unhappy with their jobs by the way, they answer the phone and the way they talk to people. That is kind of offputting to call to get information and then to be treated rudely by staff.

I had a pet chickens named bluebell that passed away suddenly. I had no idea what to do. My partner made some calls, and this was the only place he could find that would help us with her body. She was only a chicken to most people, but she was our pet, she lived inside with us and we loved her very much. I brought her up there, and everyone who worked there that I spoke with was unbelievably kind and compassionate and understanding. I was shocked at how nice and empathetic everyone was. She was our pet and we did not want to just throw her in the trash, and they understood this and treated me just as important as anyone who came in with a dog or a cat. They ask $30 fee for disposal. I'm pretty sure that you can pay more in order to have some of the ashes returned to you for a reasonable fee in addition to the $30, I didn't ask. My partner is creeped out by keeping remains, so we didn't ask about it. While I was there, I noticed a building for grooming, adoption, and one for lost and found. I didn't know which building to go in, so I just went to the last one. (Lost and found. I am so grateful for this place and for the very nice people who work there. Thank you all for being so nice and kind during a traumatic experience ❤️

Some staff are friendlier than others. No guest parking. Animals that are on display but not yet available for adoption. Liked a cat that wasn't quite ready yet, asked if they could call me when available. The first staff member said yes, second said we don't do that, you just have to keep checking. Sorry, I thought the idea was to find loving homes for the animals. The policies here make that more difficult. I ended up adopting a great cat at the SPCA instead.

I was taken into SF County Jail (850 Bryant) because of a warrant for failure to appear at court. They were just going to site me out, but that usually takes the whole night. So my 2 dogs were going to have to get picked up by SF Animal Care and Control. I was very unhappy about this because my previous experience with ACAC was very disappointing and devastating. In the past I had contacted ACAC for help because my 2 year old German Shepherd got hurt by getting hit by a taxi and needed medical attention… ACAC ended up taking my dog and would not release him to me until I had the surgery already scheduled.. it was going to take me a few days to make the funds for the surgery, but long story short they were never intending to return my baby to me. They ended up lying to me multiple times and wouldn’t let me say goodbye or even tell me where he was. And that dog was my baby (I don’t have kids so he was for real my baby) and I have had him since he was only 2 months old. And I never seen him again! Even though I had made the money for the surgery and kept in contact with them the whole time.. so foul and disrespectful. I was devastated!! So understandably I was mortified by the thought of my dogs being taken by them, if even just for the night. But this time my experience was as good as it could be. They took good care of my babies, and made sure that they were close to each other, and even updated them on their vaccinations and shots. And they even waived the fees for me due to my low income status. I very much so appreciate their kindness and reassurance that my babies would be alright and be waiting for me when I got released! And they were! Thank you SFACAC! For re establishing my trust in your facility.
